tariff back

Nathpa Jhakri power station of the corporation has a tariff determined by CERC based on the Tariff Regulations issued from time to time. The CERC determines tariff i.e. the Annual Fixed Charges (AFC) for station in accordance with the tariff regulations applicable for that tariff period.

The CERC has approved the final tariff of Nathpa Jhakri station for the period 01.04.2004 to 31.03.2007 and provisional tariff from 1.4.2007 to 31.3.2009 on 31.12.2008.

CERC has notified Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Terms and conditions of Tariff) Regulations, 2009 on 19.01.2009 which will be applicable for a period of 5 years from 01.04.2009 unless reviewed earlier or extended by commission. These Regulations also provide that generating companies shall continue to provisionally bill the beneficiaries with the tariff applicable as on 31.03.2009 till approval of tariff by the Commission in accordance with the Tariff Regulations, 2009.

The tariff (AFC) to be determined by CERC for the period 2009-14 is to be recovered as Capacity Charges & Energy Charges in the ratio 50 : 50 on monthly basis as per the provisions of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Terms and conditions of Tariff) Regulations, 2009. The components of tariff (AFC) are Return on Equity, Interest on loan capital, Depreciation, Interest on working capital and O&M expenses.

Availability Based Tariff as ordered by CERC has been implemented w.e.f. 01.12.2002 in Northern Region.

In ABT regime the generator has to generate as per the daily schedule finalised by Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC) presently being operated by CTU i.e. PGCIL. The beneficiaries have to draw power from Northern Grid and generators have to inject power in the Northern grid as per daily schedule finalised by NRLDC. Unscheduled Interchanges (UI) charges shall be imposed on the constituents of the grid who deviates from the final schedule. Presently the maximum UI rate is Rs.8.73 / kWh for over-drawal / under-injection than the given schedule at the grid frequency below 49.50 Hz.

In addition to UI Rate corresponding to frequency of 49.5 Hz, an Additional Unscheduled Interchange Charge at the rate equivalent to 40% of the UI Rate corresponding to frequency of 49.5 Hz shall be applicable for over-drawal or under-injection of electricity for each time-block when grid frequency is below 49.5 Hz.
